balkan buro / ok alijansa at the vanished gallery
The basic idea is do dominate certain space and keep the running costs low
by having exhibitions "en miniature". This concept is similar to the way, "Art
Klinika" deals with their "Shock Gallery" in Novi Sad. The
difference lies in smaller dimensions, so it is much easier to run the "vanished
gallery" and I can move it. But this solution is also about the relation between
"analogue space" and "virtual reality".
I did it first in 2003, travelling with
my colleague, the painter Josef Schuetzenhoefer. We were getting on loction, of course
without any permission, to find out, what it is about "public space" in times,
when the state sells more and more of it to private companies.
So that means in the end, we also
connected our "vanished gallery" with public space in a temporary mode and made
the centers of towns and villages part of it for some hours.
