Phaidros spricht über den Ursprung des Eros:
"Denn unter den Göttern am ältesten zu sein ist
ruhmvoll. Das aber ist bezeugt: Denn Eltern des Eros gibt es nicht, kein Laie, kein
Dichter nennt sie, sondern Hesiod sagt: Zuerst wurde das Chaos, aber danach
'Breitbrüstige Gaia, allen ewig sicherer Sitz, Und Eros'. Er sagte also, nach dem Chaos
seien diese beiden geworden, Gaia und Eros."
